Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was only a young teenager when her father who was employed as the carnival barker, passed away. Her mother had to work in jobs like waitressing, cleaning and washing. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement community in Massachusetts. She went to school in the area. She only attended the school for two years, before going on to pursue an acting career. There were many hurdles to overcome on her chosen career path. In New York she was hired to pose for photos for a magazine about crime however, no theatre job opportunities came up. She then worked as a hat check girl at the nightclub before calling the shots and moving back to Boston. In Boston, she earned a living in the ushering industry during the in the daytime, while at night she performing with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first acting job. She was a drama student in The Bishop-Lee Theatre School and graduated.
